10 of My Favourite Purchases From Renovating Our Home

The beautiful, practical and just plain dreamy things I’d buy all over again.

Renovating can feel overwhelming — there are so many decisions, and some things you end up regretting. But over the years and several houses later, I’ve got a few firm favourites that I genuinely think were a great choice.

These are the things I’d absolutely buy again — the ones that made the house feel more us and just made day-to-day life a bit nicer!

1. A Miele Washing Machine

This was one of our early splurges and I’ve never looked back. It works brilliantly, runs quietly, and honestly? It feels luxurious.
Every time I share it, I get messages saying theirs has lasted over a decade. So while it’s pricier up front, it’s a smart investment.

2. Mirror Splashback Behind the Hob

I wasn’t sure about this at first — I thought it might be too much. But it’s one of my favourite design choices. It reflects light beautifully, makes the kitchen feel bigger, and adds that subtle glam I love.

Tip: Pair it with a pot filler tap if you can — practical and pretty.

3. Log Burner Stove in the Lounge

There is nothing like a real flame in winter. It makes the whole room feel warm and grounded.
Our log burner is traditional but clean-lined — and it makes evenings feel like a little retreat.

4. Genuine Marble Tiles

My dream. I know they’re more delicate than porcelain, but the veining, the luxury, the feel of real marble underfoot… I’d choose them again in a heartbeat.
Ours are in the ensuite and they still make me smile every time I walk in.

5. Double Vanity in the Bathroom

Two sinks = no more arguments. But also, it makes the space feel instantly more ‘designer’.
We went for clean, wall-hung units with drawers underneath and big matching mirrors above. So practical and so pretty.

6. Wall-Hung Toilet

Okay, I know it sounds random, but trust me — it looks cleaner, takes up less visual space, and makes the room feel bigger.
Plus, it’s easier to clean under. I’ll never go back.

7. Ceiling-Hung Bedside Lights

Instead of table lamps, we had pendant lights wired in to hang from the ceiling above the bedside tables.
It looks high-end, saves space, and makes the room feel thoughtful and styled.

8. Glass Dining Table

If you’re short on space or want a clean, airy look, glass is your best friend. It lets light travel and keeps the room from feeling heavy or cluttered.
Ours fits six but doesn’t overpower the space.

9. Faux White Roses in Vases Everywhere

Fresh flowers are lovely, but I don’t always have the time (or the budget) to keep them up.
I’ve got vases of realistic white faux roses in every key room now — and they just soften the space and pull it together so nicely.

10. Statement Pairs: Chairs, Sofas & More

I’m a big fan of symmetry. Whether it’s two matching armchairs in the lounge, or a pair of boucle tub chairs in the bedroom, a well-placed duo makes everything feel finished.
It’s a designer trick that instantly elevates a room.

Bonus Favourite: An Island Unit in the Dressing Room

This was a dream addition — drawers for sunglasses, jewellery, perfumes… all beautifully organised.
It made the space feel like a boutique and genuinely helped with storage too.

Would I Buy Them Again?

Absolutely. These are the things that felt like “extras” when I planned them — but now, I honestly couldn’t imagine the house without them.
