The first crisp mornings and darker evenings bring that mini urge to light a candle earlier than usual… autumn always feels like nature is giving us permission to slow down. This is something on a mental battle that I often struggle with.. for a number of reasons really. 1. I struggle with the idea of giving myself a break (but its essential) and 2. I really love the Sun and can struggle with the long dark days. I’ve written this blog to reframe Autumn both for myself and for the rest of you. I do actually love Autumn and see it as such a beautiful Season that deserves more appreciation and to be fully embraced.
September, even more than January, has that “fresh start” energy — the chance to reset, simplify, and create a home and routine that feel nourishing.
Whether you’re focusing on your health, creating a more restful space, or just craving little seasonal treats, here are my favourite ways to reset after summer and embrace autumn.
🌿 Health & Wellness Reset
After long summer evenings and maybe a few too many cocktails (🙋♀️), Autumn is the season for grounding rituals.
- Start your day with movement → a short Pilates session, yoga stretch or morning walk. (I’ve been using my Pilates mat daily again — it sets the tone for a calmer day.) I’ve also been aiming to walk Toby early on as it sets the day up a bit better, especially with the ropey erratic rainfalls we’ve been having of an afternoon lately.
- Boost your nutrition → I love topping Greek yoghurt with chia seeds, walnuts, berries and honey. Supplements also make a HUGE difference — I make sore I am getting enough protein and fibre through food but top it up with protein powder by FreeSoul as well as supplements – vitamin B complex, Magnesium (also Free Soul) Omega 3.
- Note – I have a discount code of ‘HOMELYBLOGGER’ at Free Soul. SHOP HERE
- Hydrate smartly → switching to a large reusable water bottle makes it easier to keep on track.

🏡 Cosy Home Treats for Autumn
Your environment shapes your mood — so making your space feel snug is a reset in itself.
- Throws & blankets → nothing says autumn like curling up under a soft throw.
👉 Amazon pick: Chunky Knit Throw Blanket - Candles & scent → swap light florals for woody, spiced or amber notes.
👉 Amazon pick: Yankee Candle Autumn Glow - Soft lighting → lamps and warm-toned bulbs instantly create atmosphere.
👉 Amazon pick: Himalayan Salt Lamp - Cosy slippers → nothing beats slipping into warm slippers on a cold morning.

✨ Little Rituals for Staying In
Resetting for autumn isn’t only about décor — it’s about creating little rituals you actually look forward to.
- Cosy reading time → pick a book or journal instead of scrolling before bed.
👉 Amazon pick: The Five Minute Journal - Warm drinks → switch iced lattes for chai tea, hot chocolate, or collagen lattes.
👉 Amazon pick: Latte Mug & Milk Frother Wand - At-home spa → evenings in with face masks, body scrubs, or long baths.
👉 Amazon pick: Epsom Bath Salts - CLICK HERE TO SHOP ALL
These aren’t about perfection, but about building little anchors of joy. On darker evenings, something as simple as a nice hot chocolate or sitting under a glowing salt lamp can shift your whole mood.
🗂️ Organising & Planning
September is a fresh start — not just for kids going back to school, but for us too.
- Declutter → clear out summer clothes and switch your wardrobe to autumn layers.
👉 Amazon pick: Storage Baskets for Wardrobe Organising - Meal prep → hearty soups, roasted veg, slow cooker meals.
👉 Amazon pick: Slow Cooker - Planning tools → if you’re moving, renovating or just want to feel more organised, my Homely Blogger Series: Home Purchase & Reno Planner is now live on Etsy — packed with checklists, budget trackers and inspo to make life easier ✨.

💛 Final Thoughts
Autumn doesn’t have to feel like a come-down after summer. Yes, it’s natural to miss the long evenings and sunshine — but instead of seeing Autumn as the end of joy, try reframing it as a beginning.
September is a season of calm, of routines that nurture you, of simple rituals that make darker evenings feel restorative rather than gloomy. By layering in little comforts — a new throw, a scented candle, a warm drink, a cosy planner — you can create a home and routine that feel exciting rather than heavy.
Treat autumn like a chapter of calm magic: a chance to reset, embrace slower living, and prepare for the season ahead.
