TOP 5: My 2023 Reading List

I massively value reading and think it is a great escapism tool so I have been making a real effort to get back in to it recently. I can 100% notice an improvement in my mental health and overall wellbeing/outlook. I’m constantly on the look out for new titles so do let me know some of yours too!

Here are a top 5 that I plan to read early 2023 –  in no particular order:

THE CHIMP PARADOX – PROFESSOR STEVE PETERS

I have heard SO many good things about this so it is first on my list but also I came across a follow up book thanks to Diary of a CEO Steven’s interview with him. This is called ‘A Path to the Jungle’ but I want to start off with his initial book. My general idea of it so far is that it focuses on there being a balance you need to find in your mind between yourself and your inner chimp. I think having self control over your own thoughts is SO important and such a massive strength/advantage to be able to master so I really can’t wait to read this one!

WORKING HARD, HARDLY WORKING – GRACE BEVERLEY

I’ve come across Grace from Podcasts, both her own and with Diary of a CEO (again). Grace is one of those people that you sit and think.. how has she achieved all that at her age!? It’s just insane. 3 multi million pound businesses, a podcast, a Cambridge degree – any of those as a singular would be impressive anyway but she is also only 25 and this has been in the works for years!. It’s all rather mind boggling so I’d love an insight in to her life and mindset as I find all of the above incredibly admirable.

THE ALCHEMIST – PAUL COELHO

This has such an amazing worldwide reputation and friends have also recommended it to me. The book itself is gorgeous and I have it on display in my lounge (lol all about aesthetics) but I intend to finally get round to reading it because everyone absolutely raves about it! I believe the message is that there are obstacles in life on your pursuit but they are merely speed bumps to overcome rather than dead ends, towards your dreams. This is a vague summary I’ve gathered but either way -it is SO popular that it must be worth a read!

HOW TO FAIL – ELIZABETH DAY

Elizabeth Day is an author with many books released as well as a successful podcast – chatting to people about their failures and what they have learned from them. I think the basis of this is really important and I love the idea of getting the message out there that failure is not the end and you have to fail in order to learn, improve and overcome life’s obstacles. I have tried SO many things in my life and I didn’t even really consider them being consistent failures as I just kept going and trying new things. I then had quite a few ‘failed’ plans in a shorter space of time and it got quite testing – perhaps old age and cynicism got the better of me! It all got on top of me and I have had to work really hard to strictly view them as life lessons rather than just a failure on my part. It’s such an important message and I really want to read the book as it seems like something I can relate to and learn even more from for my mindset.

HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE – DALE CARNEGIE

This was originally published in 1936 which is crazy – sometimes going back to the originals is the best plan! I’ve heard great things so I’d really like to give it a go as anything that can still be so prevalent after so many decades sounds a good investment of your time. I saw online a summary of the book in a bullet point list and it sounds like it helps form a foundation of how to be the best version of yourself in terms of personal relationships and day to day communication.

Lessons From How To Win Friends And Influence People

  1. Don’t Criticise.
  2. Give Honest And Sincere Appreciation.

  7. Be A Good Listener.

Additional points: I mentioned these 2 authors in my previous blog of book recommendations. (CLICK HERE TO VISIT BLOG)

They are both a follow up as their second books. Therefore I thought it would be best to add as an end note rather than constantly repeating myself. I adore the first books by both of the authors and massively rate the messages that they are getting across to readers. Very excited to read these and I’m confident I won’t be disappointed.

EVERYTHING IS FU*CKED A BOOK ABOUT HOPE – MARK MANSON

MANIFEST DIVE DEEPER – ROXIE NAFOUSI

What books do you intend to read this year? I’d love to add more to my list!
